BOATS : Click HERE to see diagrams
BODY LEAN  : Incorporate back motion into paddling, usually after Arms only, MOVEMENT FROM PELVIS- DO NOT BEND OR ROLL YOUR BACK

COLLAR : Clamp on the sleeve that prevents blade sliding out to far
EASY OARS : Complete the stoke & come to rest with blades resting on water, arms & back straight.

FIN : Fixed plane on bottom of boat to ensure it runs straight through water
FULL PRESSURE : Maximum effort, this should be so hard that you can only maintain rates/pressure for short periods
FULL SLIDE : Stroke using full length of slide
GATE : Part of the rigger where oar sits and is secured
HALF PRESSURE : Increase speed through water by increasing pressure, not rate
HALF SLIDE : Same principle as Quarter, but use half length of slide
HALF TURN : Rotate boat half a turn (from horizontal to vertical or vertical to horizontal
HANDLE : The part of the oar that you hold when rowing/sculling
HEADS : Lift and rotate boat to upside down with a hand on each side of boat & arms outstretched above your head
HOLD UP : If moving; easy ors first then turn blades square to water, which slows and stops boat quickly
LEVEL OFF : Lower the boat until arms straight, with boat in upside down position
LOOM/SHAFT : Long section between the handle and the blade
LOWER : Drop blades on to water
OAR : If this needs explaining, take up another sport! These are also mostly referred to as Blades to confuse you
PADDLE LIGHT : Row gently
PYRAMID : Typically 10 hard strokes then 10 lighter, followed by 15 of each and so on then back down again using same numbers in reverse

SLEEVE : Part of oar that sits in the gate (square to allow easy feel of square & feathered positions
SLIDE : Runners that the seat sits on to slide forward and back
SPLIT : From heads position: both sides move away from boat to respective side while lowering to waist level moving your grip to your side edge
SQUARE BLADES : Keep blade vertical throughout whole stroke (no feathering)

STERN : Rear of boat (in front of you as you sit in boat)
STRETCHER : Plate that the shows are fixed to
